Our August was anything but normal, not just for us, but for all of us.
In our "new normal" COVID world we were forced, and still are, to adjust time-and-time again. Both our Atlantic City Triathlon and Tri the Wildwoods Triathlon went from live events to virtual. I even thought of the smartest idea in the world to actually hold an event; I decided to let the athletes choose if they were confident enough to jump off the Cape May-Lewes Ferry to do the swim portion of the Escape the Cape Triathlon. This proved my greatest fears to be true, as over 87% of athletes polled stated they did not want to participate and would rather wait until 2021. Wow. All of the talk I would read online about how athletes are chomping at the bit to race was NOT TRUE, but it is what it is, or was.
So, what did we do? Enter DelMoPRO.
August was actually an OK month for DelMoPRO. We were able to be part of a few live events that gave us hope for a brighter, healthier future. The Crest 5K Beach Run, the Bike4Chai Charity Ride, and the DeSatnick Foundation Cape to Cape Paddle definitely got the 'juices flowing' in our niche world of event production. The one thing that was 100% evident is how beautiful the athletes of these events have been. While setting up the starting line for the Crest 5K Beach Run, a lifeguard buddy of mine stepped up to the starting line and said, "Love ya man, hang in there, we'll be here for you." While attaching timing chips to athletes’ bikes at the Bike4Chai event, an athlete recognized me and said, "DelMo! My 'Jew Crew' loves you guys, thanks for being here, can't wait to get back down to Atlantic City to race in 2021," and then proceeded to grab a hold of me for a selfie. And finally, to be out on the water of the Cape to Cape Paddle and saddled with the responsibility of keeping 60+ watermen and women safe, and received kudos from an athlete who stated, "I've done everything from IRONMAN to Ultra Marathons all over the world, and this was the safest I've ever felt."
As we enter our first September with no IRONMAN 70.3 Atlantic City to look forward to, we take solace knowing that even though our live events took a beating, our spirits did not. We eagerly look forward to our first live event of 2020 in October, the 3rd Annual Crest Best Run Fest Presented by Inspira Health. Yes, there will be some changes to the event but we are excited to showcase world class safety in our world class community of Wildwood Crest, NJ. Of course, more details to follow next week.
Thank you. Be well. Stay safe.
