When I started this business 21 years ago, I had no idea what I was doing.

In fact, I had a less than negative idea of what I was doing, or where I was ultimately going. At the time, I was teaching middle school in South Philadelphia, wasn't married (although I was dating the future Mrs. DelMo), and was thoroughly consumed by my training/racing schedule. I had no idea at the time, but by taking that initial trip to the Home Depot to purchase 15 cones, which I thought made me prepared to host a race, would put me on a journey to do some amazing things on my way to working the 2025 TCS New York City Marathon with the following supplies:
- 40 plus crew members spread across 4 boroughs
- 27,000ft of barricade
- 20,000ft of mesh branding that needed to be hung on barricade in the following locations:
- All througout Brooklyn/Queens
- All along 1st Ave (check out some videos of 1st ave on youtube)
- THe Bronx Mile 20
- Upper Manhattan into Centeral Park
- Central Park South --basically from the exit of Central Park all along 59th Street until athletes enter Central Park to the finish
- 2000 sandbags
- 17 trucks
- Gozillion Zip Ties
- 20-hour shift with plenty of laughs
How did I get here? Why me? Where do I go from here?
There are questions I have asked myself over and over again. I correlate them directly to signing up for a race that was beyond my current capabilities. Let me be CRYSTAL CLEAR. When I have had the opportunity to bid on a project, or launch an event, or do something very special in my chosen field I WAS NOT READY AT THAT EXACT MOMENT....
...but I moved forward in my search to learn how to do 'that thing,' I was entrusted to do. Here's where it gets really, really good: When you take a step in the direction of your dream/passion/vision, and are CRYSTAL CLEAR on WHAT YOU WANT, you will only see the answers you are looking for, and better yet, the answers you're looking for WILL FIND YOU.
How is that true? The HOW is none of my business. All I know is, I've been doing this for 21 years. Take a look at all of the events we have done, and who we work with. There are no coincidences. My energy and my intention match up with those who pursue the very best in what they do. The events and people find me...not the other way around.
Why am I telling you this? Because...each of us have something we want to do, and the older we get, the less likely we're going to take that chance due to responsibilities, logic, and failed past attempts. I'm telling you it's not too late. I'm telling you to go after 'that thing,' that lights you up. I'm telling you to share this with someone a hell of a lot younger than you who questions their value that they too, with time/patience/persistence, can go from 15...to 27,000...in 21. But they (and you) can only do so if you keep going.
Keep going this November. Do the thing. Sign up for the thing. Take a chance on that thing. Believe.
Rest Easy,
Delmo
