Anyone ready to get the Holiday’s over with yet? I’ve had xmas music on in my house since Thanksgiving Day. Feel my pain. OK, the big day is coming… no, not Christmas, but New Year’s Day. The day your calendar ticks over and you/me/we start anew. Time to get RADD!
RADD? Why yes I did grow up in the 80’s but seriously, you know how I feel about you, the athlete. You know how I feel about triathlon. You know I believe in Doing the Work. Truth: five years ago, today Escape the Cape didn’t exist, Ironman 70.3 Atlantic City didn’t exist. The Atlantic City Triathlon and Tri the Wildwoods Triathlon were both under 400 athletes. Today, DelMoSports has 4 of the top 5 triathlons in PA, NJ, and DE. How the heck did this happen? What did I do? To give you the whole story, I’d need you to sign a NDA and then give me 8-12 hours of your day… for real. To summarize the last 5 years into a simple blog or email, I’ve broken it down into 4 simple steps. The 4 simple steps below are the foundation of what I had to do in order to create my vision for DelMoSports.
NOTE: There were many times that I thought I was finished, that I couldn’t go forward, that I was toast. There was much soul searching, crying in the shower, and hugging my family for support and through all of that… grey hair started to appear literally overnight. I’m not trying to be funny rather I’m telling you because it’s true.
So here it goes.
#1. Remember One Thing… choose it and let’s change it. Reflect on what it will be like to live the same life if you don’t change, if you don’t go to the gym, if you don’t hug your kids, if you don’t call your mother, if you don’t take the time to fix that one thing. For once in your life, take some pride in knowing YOU’VE GOT WHAT IT TAKES to change anything at any time. Remember being humiliated, remember the insecurity and REFUSE to let that define your life. Look, we all have our issues so take that and recycle those feelings into the jet fuel that is going to carry you to achieving your dreams. OVER ACHIEVER ALERT: Let’s be honest, we’re all over achievers, or so we think. We think we can get a lot more done than time allows. That’s the main reason our check list is never complete. Therefore, if you want to create lasting change, it is critical you drill down to the ONE THING that is going to make the largest impact and then do everything in your power to make it happen. P.S. If you pick something and don’t do anything about it, that means it’s not causing you enough pain yet. You’re not ready. Sorry.
#2. Add One Thing in your life. “If you want to keep on gettin what you’re gettin, keep doin what you’re doin”… the same works in reverse folks. You need to add something to your life so you can start seeing different results. You might need to change your bedtime, replace a cigarette with a piece of gum, or better yet, sign up for a race that you’ve always thought of doing (click here for that race and use code HOLIDAY10 to save $10). Here’s what’s clear: You need to add something new in your life that’s gonna help you smile. Here’s a great rule for selecting what to add in your life… it’s call the YES/NO game. Here’s how it works: If you say YES to something, you’re actually saying NO to something else. If you say YES to eating healthy, you’re saying NO to being unhealthy. If you say YES to spending all night on the TV, you’re saying NO to that presentation that has to get done. Make sense? We’re always playing the YES/NO game… you just have to realize you’re doing so.
#3. Delete One Thing in your life that makes you miserable. That is not a typo. It is time to purge the ONE THING that is making life difficult. For some, it’s Doritos, for others it’s booze, and to be truthful, if you are in a relationship that is toxic (could be a coach, club, friend, spouse, partner, job, etc.) you’ve got to get it out of your life. Life is too short to be unhappy… especially about things we can control… start making better choices and get rid of what is causing you the most pain. Remember, the hardest things in life are simple to do… they’re also simple NOT to do.
#4. Do One Thing every day. Remember that thing we picked to change in our life… guess what? Nothing is going to change unless you do and that will not happen unless you do ONE THING every day to support your new direction in life. People, this is not rocket science, it’s a mathematical fact. Have you ever heard of the 1% rule? No? Google it. It’s a mind blower. It doesn’t take this massive amount of energy to create lasting change… rather it takes just a little bit. Every. Single. Day.
Remember, Add, Delete, Do. That’s it. This is what I do. I hope it helps you.

If you find yourself asking this question, then you still don’t get it… and that’s ok. DelMoSports doesn’t produce triathlons, or swimming races, or running races. We provide you, the athlete, with a venue to achieve a life altering experience. This is what I believe. This is how I run my life and my business. And I can only hope that you can feel that energy, take that energy, and bring it with you into the new year. I’m begging you to do ONE THING and achieve your dreams… and if we can be a part of that… that’s pretty RADD.
