Each month, we sit down with a DelMoSports athlete and ask them a few questions.
Meet DelMo Athlete and Volunteer, Denise Randon!
1. What are your race goals for the 2018 season?
My race goals for the 2018 season are to have as much fun as I can doing any event. I am working towards my ultimate personal goal of participating in my first half Ironman, IMAC 70.3, while enjoying it every step of the way!
2. Best racing advice?
My racing advice for everyone is to never give up; continue to put one foot in front of the other! I suffered trauma to my lungs and it left me with massive scar tissue and reduced lung capacity. The doctors said I can’t do this and push my lungs to their limit. I told them “yes. I can.” And I did.
3. Favorite pre-race meal?
My favorite pre race meal is half a banana, a waffle with peanut butter, my coffee is a MUST and lots of fluid a few hours before the race. I usually eat a strop waffle right before the race so that I get some protein, carbs and potassium. I listened to what my friends do and took lots of advice from them on this subject. Try different things out BEFORE race day and see what works for you!
4. What is your race mantra?
That’s my mantra. “Yes. You can.” You have to believe you can with every ounce of your being. If you believe it, You’ll do it. Say what I say before every race: “Yes. I can. I am strong. I am fierce. Hear me roar!”
5. Which event is your favorite to volunteer?
Volunteering for my favorite event is anytime I can work in the food tent. I get to work with Mrs. DelMo, the amazing Ashley and a group of my best Tri friends! It’s awesome because the participants share so many great stories and you get to see the look of accomplishment on their faces.
6. What is your favorite volunteer experience with DelMoSports?
My favorite volunteer experience with DelMoSports was working the food tent for the first time with a few of my friends. We didn’t have a clue what to do. Ashley quickly whipped all of us into shape and by the end of the day the event was running smoothly and we were all working really well together. Hopefully, we will get to work more of the events together and make Ashley and Ms. DelMo proud!
7. Tell us three things we should know about you.
1- I used to weigh 215 pounds, I have lost 80 pounds in the past 3 years. Its not easy, takes a lot of work and dedication.
2- I have only been a triathlete for a little over a year! I joined The Mullica Hill Women’s Triathlon Club a year ago. It was the best decision I ever made. I have become friends with some of the most fabulous women I could ever ask to meet and they keep me going even when I don’t want to. We support each other and I love them for it!
3- I am a mom of 3 wonderful girls, a wife to a neglected, but supportive husband (its Tri season, sorry honey!) and I work full time as a cosmetology educator.
